Retirement village review of refusal to appoint mediator

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Review of the Commissioner refusal to appoint a mediator

The Commissioner may refuse mediation if:

  • the matter is before a court
  • village dispute resolution procedures were not attempted
  • another resolution pathway is considered more appropriate, such as conciliation.

If you are not satisfied with the Commissioner’s decision to refuse to appoint a mediator, you can ask for the decision to be reviewed.
