Consumer Protection Awards FAQ

Nominations open and close in the second half of the year preceding an Awards ceremony. Information on the nomination period will be published on the Consumer Protection Awards home page.

The awards are open to any Western Australian individual, group, organisation or media outlet.
Nominations can be submitted directly, or on behalf of another, provided they consent to the nomination.

Yes. You are able to enter or nominate others for multiple award categories.
Each nomination requires a separate application.

Yes, all previous nominees and finalists who do not win are eligible to enter.

Yes, you are able to enter again.

• Rona Okely Award for individuals
• Richard (Dick) Fletcher Award for groups and organisations
• Kidsafe WA Award for innovation in injury prevention for Western Australia children
• Ruby Hutchison Media Award for the media
• David Hillyard Award (selected by the Commissioner without nominations).

If you are nominating on behalf of another individual, group or organisation, you must obtain their consent before submitting a nomination.

Have the following information and material readily available to input or upload as you go:

Referees

Provide the name and contact details of one referee who can comment directly on your or your nominee’s achievements. Please note, Consumer Protection and Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety staff cannot act as referees.

Images

Provide up to four high quality images and a company logo (.png or .jpg), including a headshot of the nominee where applicable. These images will be used for promotional purposes for the Awards presentation, printed material, online publications and digital/social media.

Supporting material

Supporting material for the Ruby Hutchison Media Award is mandatory, and highly recommended for other award categories.

• survey outcomes
• videos
• audio files

A judging panel will conduct an independent assessment process to review each nomination. Judges for the Awards panel are chosen for their expertise, knowledge and experience in consumer protection and media issues.

The judging panel will evaluate all entries against the assessment and eligibility criteria as outlined within the online nomination portal. Criteria vary based on the award category.

You will be advised via email of your status as a finalist or non-finalist after the judging process has been completed. 

The names of finalists and winners are announced at the annual Western Australian Consumer Protection Awards presentation ceremony, usually held each year in the week of World Consumer Rights Day (15 March).
