FuelWatch and fuel prices

Last updated: 29 June 2026

FuelWatch shows fuel prices in your area so you can choose where and when to fill up.

Fuel retailers must notify FuelWatch of their next day's prices by 2pm each day. These prices are ‘locked in’ for 24 hours from 6am the following day.  FuelWatch makes the following day's prices available to the public by 2:30pm each day.

Prices shown on FuelWatch are the standard cash prices. They exclude discounts and charges, such as supermarket discounts or credit card fees.

The FuelWatch scheme includes every fuel retailer in Western Australia.

Using FuelWatch to find fuel prices

Prices are flagged over the map with the lowest price highlighted in red. This makes it easy to find your best fuel deal near you by:

  • searching by suburb or postcode
  • using my location feature (compass). You will need to enable location permission.
  • finger stretching the screen to search all directions of the map.

Tomorrow's fuel prices today

Fuel prices for the following day are available from 2:30 pm each afternoon. You can check which day and station is the cheapest before you head to the bowser.

FuelWatch price trends tracks fuel prices so you can see if prices are trending up or down.

Fuel price inspections

Extra checks will be carried out at fuel stations in the FuelWatch boundary across WA over the next several weeks. These checks will make sure:

  • fuel is being sold at the correct price notified to FuelWatch
  • fuel prices are clearly and correctly displayed.

Fuel station operators who do not follow the rules may receive warnings, fines, or even face prosecution.

FuelWatch weekly price cycle

Petrol price cycle for Perth and Mandurah

Petrol prices in metropolitan Perth and Mandurah currently follow a seven-day cycle. The cycle only applies to unleaded petrol. Diesel and LPG do not have a price cycle.

The price cycle begins with a sharp increase one day, currently every Wednesday. The prices then decrease over the following six days. On the last day of the cycle, prices are at their cheapest and often at or below wholesale prices. The low prices are unsustainable for retailers, so they hike their petrol prices the next day and the cycle repeats.

Regional WA prices are generally more stable and do not have price cycles.

Fuel prices in Australia

The Government (Commonwealth, State or Territory) does not set or control fuel prices in Australia.

Fuel prices go up and down for many reasons including:

  • changes to international benchmark prices;
  • the value of the Australian dollar to the US dollar;
  • local competition and the daily pricing decisions made by wholesalers and retailers.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has more information.

Petrol price cycles in the rest of Australia

Petrol price cycles in the Eastern state capital cities vary in size and length. Eastern states’ drivers also face price changes during the day. This makes it difficult to compare stations and get the cheapest fuel. For information on petrol price cycles in the Eastern states visit the ACCC’s website.
