Landgate invites all members of the conveyancing industry to attend a face-to-face or webinar session on the transition to electronic conveyancing.
The Registrar of Titles, Jean Villani, will guide attendees through the steps undertaken to bring the industry to this stage, deliver an update on the latest activities and discuss the next moves planned to achieve fully paperless conveyancing.

All agents who hold a current triennial certificate and have held or received monies in trust during the 2016 calendar year, or part thereof, are required to have their trust accounts audited for the period by an auditor approved by the Commissioner for Consumer Protection (the Commissioner).
Agents who have not held or received monies in trust during the 2016 year should submit a statutory declaration in lieu of an audit report.

Settlement agents have recently notified the Department about being approached by a Victorian company regarding possible business arrangements that has raised concern.
The Victorian company advised their plan was to provide free referrals to settlement agents for an initial period to demonstrate their business integrity, after which they would charge a fee per referral.
Elective activities must be approved by the Commissioner for Consumer Protection.
Training providers seeking approval for activities to be included as a part of the compulsory professional development program. Trainers are invited to submit professional development activities, which meet the aims and purpose of the CPD program, for approval as elective activities.

A review of the Auction Sales Act 1973 (the Act) has been commenced by the Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Commerce (Consumer Protection). The purpose of this review is to assess the operation and effectiveness of auction sales laws, to ensure that the auction sales industry operates in a manner that is fair and competitive.
All settlement agents who hold or receive money on behalf of others relating to a settlement transaction in Western Australia are required to open and maintain trust accounts.
